And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” - Mark 4:37-41.
Now, I could really just stop there and be done with it! "Who is this that even the wind and sea obey Him?" Wow! So, you're telling me, that Jesus spoke to the storm and it it stopped! Yup! That's exactly what the Word of God says. Jesus was asleep during the storm. He wasn't bothered, because He knew that He had authority over it. It was those disciples, SMH, yeah... them. "Oh, ye of little faith!" They were the ones that were afraid. But, like Jesus had done numerous of times, He had to prove to them that EVERYTHING must submit to Him!
Doesn't that sound familiar? No matter how many times Jesus has performed miracles, signs, and wonders in our lives, the minute the wind begins to blow and the waves begin to crash, we run to Him and ask, "Don't you care? Don't you care that my bills are due? Don't you care that my marriage is rocky? Don't you care that my children are acting crazy? Don't you care that I've been diagnosed with cancer? Don't you care about what I'm going through?" And Jesus opens His mouth and says, "Peace, be still!" and a great calm comes over you. And you say, "Phew! Thank you Jesus!" And He asks, "Why don't you have faith?" MMH! What do you say then?
So, why then, does God allow the storms to come in our lives? Why does He not just speak to all of them before they begin? I'm glad you asked. Because He's waiting for us to speak to the storms. In John 14:12, Jesus says, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." Now, this doesn't mean that you will do greater than what Jesus did, but that you will do it in a greater measure. He was only one person, but we are many! So, because He was able to speak to the storm, YOU CAN TOO!
Do you want to know why Hurricane Dorian didn't make landfall in Florida? Because, we as the body of Christ, spoke to it and commanded it to go back into the sea, in the name of Jesus! And, because we believed that it had to obey and submit to the name of Jesus, that Hurricane stopped over the Bahamas and thought twice about hitting Florida!
With that being said, let's continue to pray for the Bahamas! Cover them and support them in any way we can! We are all united as a race and we should always be willing and ready to lift up one another! Amen!
Now, go forth and conquer!
